Freshman dorms, fabulous shoes and an interview.

Berenice's funeral was yesterday morning and she looked beautiful. One thing that she was always known for was her stilettos, which she wore everyday, no matter what she was doing or where she was going. She always had her nails done, make up on, hair in an up-do and her stilettos on, even up to about a week ago. Before she passed, her best friend asked her to pick out her favorite pair of stilettos to put in an arrangement at the funeral home. The quality is low, because it was taken on my phone, but here is the arrangement.

Last night was fun...but weird. I went to TCU to visit my good friend, Raevan (see the post about Teen USA in the August archives). Well, she's 18, and a freshman at TCU, and she lives in an all-girls freshman dorm. Needless to say, I felt really old. But we had a blast...almost peeing in the sprinklers...power-45..."Aunt Shelby"...serious war discussions...the sty...talking like a porn star...scouting out the girls for miss universe...the aardvark: 7 years later..."I feel like I'm in a children's hospital"..."I'm bringing him a present, and the present is you"..."where's Raevan?"...

Some exciting news, I got an interview with a family law firm. It's on Wednesday, so I'll be sure to report how it goes. It was totally out of the blue...I sent them my resume like over 2 months ago and they called yesterday. Wish me luck!

Stick a fork in me...

...I'm done! With law school that is. I had my last two finals EVER yesterday, and they sucked, but I'm done, so who cares. And it was bad folks, I was the first person to leave BOTH my exams...do you think I was ready to get out of there?

On a sad note, the night before my finals, my great-aunt Berenice passed away. It was a huge relief for everyone, because she had been suffering for a long time. She died of cancer, which she had been battling in its final stages for over a year. She was an amazing person, the quintessential Dallas woman, and she will be missed dearly.

So, I am about to hop on a plane to go to Fort Worth for the funeral and then I will be headed down to Austin to spend some time with my mom and some friends. Oh, and some more good news, my "filling in" time at this law firm has ended early because of the funeral, but my boss wants to keep me on and he wants me to get my intern license so I can do more to help him with cases. So all I have to do is pay $50 and as soon as I receive my JD, I can get sworn in on May 8th. This excites me...so hopefully everything will pan out.

What's another word for stress?

Stress when it empowers you...I think someone needs to come up with a word for that. I went to work today (not stressful), then I ran a few errands and decided to take on something that probably should have waited until after finals.

Since I'm "growing up", I've decided to start taking care of my finances and this doesn't just have to do with bills. I recently went back to my natural color (cheaper hair appointments), moved into an awesome apartment (but it's $175 cheaper than my last apartment), I've started doing a lot of cooking at home (saving money on eating out), and I'm starting to jog outdoors and bring my Billy Blanks Tae Bo tapes out of retirement (so that there will be no need for a gym membership).

ALSO, the most painful thing of them all, I've been spending very little money this month, so I decided to start returning all of those collections calls. And I spent nearly $800 today on bills and scheduled a bunch of automatic payments for the next 3 months. So as stressful as it was, I'm thinking of how much better I will feel in 3 months when I have my credit card completely paid off.

Well, gotta get back to studying...I'm so tired of Indian Law...

Oh, CollegeHumor, you know Facebook so well...

Me? Excited about working?

Yes...I woke up today in a bad mood, not because it was my first day of work, but because of several things that happened in the first hour that I got up...i.e. Jack running off and having to chase him around the neighborhood in my pjs, a certain somebody who still hasn't called me back, and I still haven't gotten a working debit card - this madness has been going on since March 25th.

Anyways, getting to work instantly put me in a good mood. It's a small law firm and the partners are SOOOOO nice. They gave me stuff to work on immediately and if you didn't know this, I'm happiest when I'm busy. But that is of course when I'm busy doing something I love. And I really had a great time today. The senior partner even told me he was happy I was there because he's wanting to expand the law firm and he prefers to hire someone right out of law school who has a worked for a him a little bit as a clerk...well, guess who takes the bar exam in July???

So, granted I'm only working there for the next few weeks, since PMBR and Bar/Bri start after that, and I'm technically filling in for Megan. But the plan is to keep me "on call" whenever Megan goes to Houston to visit her boyfriend, which I'm thinking will be quite often. And I'm always willing to work for experience only (no paycheck) so maybe I'll offer to help them out for free this Summer. We'll see.

American Idol: Can't watch it because Fox is "temporarily offline". What the heck does that mean? So I'm being forced to study since I can't possibly take any more of the news...I've been watching it non-stop since yesterday at noon. So sad...yet it just makes me mad at sociopaths like Cho. If you hate life so much, kill yourself, don't take other innocent people down with you.

And don't get me started on the many ways this whole thing could have been prevented, and no, I'm not talking about gun control - I'm against gun control...but we'll save that for another day.

New Smoking Ban

"The Motion Picture Association of America is under new leadership. The new head asked experts at Harvard to recommend how to handle smoking in movies. The Harvard panel came back with strict guidelines that would ban smoking except in real historical context, from all but R-rated movies. If a character smokes, unless they are playing an actual person who smoked, the film would get an R rating."

This is the dumbest shit I've heard all week.

Cooper, Esq.

This new show, Notes From the Underbelly, is so awesome. I love it! It actually makes me excited to one day get preggers. One day far in the future might I add. Anyways, there's a character on the show who is me to a T. Her name is Cooper and she is the non-pregnant friend. She's a divorce attorney. She's blatantly honest with her friends. She is me...watch the show and you will see. I've never seen a character on a show that I actually felt I had so much in common with. The same shit even happens to me that has already happened to her in the first two episodes...i.e. kyle. Watch it!

I'm so thirsty...

I've already drank about 2 gallons of water, but I'm still thirsty. Now I will explain why.

Last night, friends were out at Continental Club, so I hopped in the shower around 9, did my hair, make up and got dressed. Walked out to my car...it wouldn't start. So, I called J, who had previously told me he was planning to meet me out, and asked him to come get me on his way out. Since I had spent $85 Wednesday night with Matt, I decided to do a little pre-partying at my place to save some bucks.

So I made myself a vodka/fruit punch and another and another and an hour later, J showed up in a cab to get me. Only had a couple of beers at the club, met a cute sushi chef and ran into a lot of friends who I didn't expect to be out at Continental. Got home around 2, proceeded to get drunker with a neighbor, pulled out my hookah, smoked some cherry-flavored tobacco and almost set my apartment on fire.

I woke up this morning to see that I had drunk-dialed and drunk-texted many of my friends. This is why I need a breathalyzer for my phone. Even though I know it's going to end badly, I always manage to pull out my phone and make a fool of myself. And apparently, deleting someone's phone number out of my cell phone isn't enough for me not to call them, because I can always go look up their number on my phone bill. I'm crazy, I know. But I'll likely do the exact same thing tonight.

Now I'm headed up to Panera to get some studying done...wish me luck.

Finals Shminals

I got about 5 hours of studying done yesterday and that's not counting the studying I did during my 2 classes. But today, I'm not feeling it at all. In fact, I haven't even gotten out of bed and it's after 5. I did get some good news today though, I will be working at a law firm for sure for the next few weeks and then anytime they need me after that.

I'm really sad about one thing though. I really badly want to attend Bonnaroo this year. They have an awesome line up and I just dig the idea of renting an RV and going to Tennessee to listen to some good music for 4 days. The problem is that it's in June when I SHOULD be studying for bar. Granted it's early in the Summer so I could probably afford to go, but my mom would flip, so I don't know.

And what's all this 8 weeks of studying for the bar exam? As far as I know my PMBR classes begin May 7th and the bar exam is July 24 and 25. That's a lot longer than 8 weeks, but I will say, I'm looking forward to learning about something OTHER than Indian law.

Top Ten List: Changes During Finals

1. No more going out every night, granted, I will still go out a few nights a week, but only after a long productive day of studying.

2. When I start studying, I stop eating and take breaks to workout, which usually results in me losing around 10 pounds during finals. This makes me happy.

3. My apartment becomes immaculate, since I will do just about anything to avoid studying and cleaning my apartment and organizing is a good distraction.

4. I can finally say that I'm not smoking anymore, which will be weird, because it's very difficult not to smoke during finals.

5. I will spend most of my days at Panera studying. It's great, chai tea lattes, free pop refills and internet.

6. Getting up earlier in the day is a must, since I won't allow myself to go out at night without having gotten a productive day of studying in.

7. I will get very tan, because, again, I will find any excuse to take a break from studying, and in my mind, tanning is a valid excuse.

8. Jack gets a lot of Ally May time. Since I leave the house for up to 8-10 hours at a time to study, Megan and I usually arrange for the dogs to spend that time together so that neither of them get lonely.

9. Lots of blogging, myspacing and unnecessary taking of surveys. Again, to procrastinate.

10. No looking cute at all...no makeup, hair in ponytail, workout clothes. Although, this might not be at all since I might be temping at a law firm for the next 2 weeks. We'll see.

Artificial Intelligence?

What do you call it when a blonde dyes her hair brown? --- Artificial intelligence.

Maybe it will work for finals and the bar exam...but seriously, it is my natural color.

An escape after the bar exam

My mom and I decided against the African safari for this year considering that I am going to be exhausted, physically and mentally, after taking the bar exam. So we decided on a more relaxing vacation. We are going on a 12-day Mediterranean cruise on Princess Cruise Lines.

If any of you have been to any of these stops and have any suggestions on where to go, or where not to go, please let me know. This is only my second time to Europe, and my first time, I stayed in Spain, so needless to say, I know nothing about France, Italy, Greece or Turkey.

For my 100th post

I'm back. I moved my blog over to myspace for a bit, but I'm back and I'm going to post a few of my myspace postings that I find to be particularly interesting or entertaining on here to catch up...here's one:

I have a new-found hero. I always loved her before, but she has officially reached hero status. Sarah Silverman. She's a woman, she's racist, offensive and jewish, how much cooler can you get? J/k, but really, I love her. I can't wait for her show to come back on. Here's a clip just in case you don't know who she is.

Another chick I'm really digging right now is the newly crowned Miss USA 2007, former Miss Tennessee 2007 Rachel Smith. Could we ask for a better Miss USA? Well, in all honesty, anyone would have been better after Tara Conner. I'm such a pageant dork, I know. But in all seriousness, she's incredibly beautiful, exotic, she has dimples, she's a mixed-race baby (best accessory EVER), she's southern, smart, used to work for Oprah, slamming body and so sweet. Here's a clip of her on Oprah. Eat it up!
